The famous Art Basel Miami is happening right now, showcasing the works of artists from across the world at the Miami Convention Center and other locations around Miami Beach.

If you’ve always wanted to participate in this great annual event as an artist, In Home Moving Estimate is giving you the chance! You can paint your art on a truck used for moving furniture at 4pm Saturday, Dec. 5, on the south side of Dorsey Park at 1775 NW 1st Ave. The project will continue into Sunday until it is completed. This is a free public outdoor event and ten artists will be selected to paint their art on the truck.

This special event is part of the Miami Art Week celebration that showcases everything from paintings and sculpture to architecture, weaving and fabric art, metal art, photography and film. More than 260 leading art galleries from the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia showcase the works of contemporary and emerging artists from throughout the world.

Moving van as traveling art work

A plain, white moving truck is the perfect canvas for showing your artistic vision of people moving across town or across the country. Artists of all types, especially those who paint murals, are encouraged to apply and spectators are also welcome. The medium used must adhere to a panel truck, so car paint is strongly advised. The rest is up to you!

The inspiration for painting a moving truck comes from artists and other travelers who have visited large cities in Central American countries and seen the brightly painted buses used for public transportation. The buses are often retired school buses from the United States and Canada. The standard yellow school bus is considered boring, so artists from Guatemala to Panama have created collages on them in vivid colors including neon pinks and bright greens. These mobile works of art feature an imaginative mix of local scenes, people and places.

The painted, Miami-based moving truck will be a local version of this popular art form. This semi truck will travel across the United States showcasing your artwork to people everywhere!
